How to stand out on LinkedIn?

Who are you and what is your Story?

I’m the guy that makes social media for business owners and brands easy.

After a 30 year career in corporate sales I understand the challenges every business owner and brand faces in generating leads and making sales.

My coaching business demystifies the world of social media and has my clients winning new customers in as little as one week while also giving them a templated formula to follow over and over again. 

How often do you use LinkedIn?

I use LinkedIn every day as social media is not a sometimes thing it’s an everyday thing.

Visibility = Credibility = Profitability

I’m also active on most of the other social media everyday as well.

How to stand out on LinkedIn?

I believe it can be really easy to stand out on Linkedin with these simple steps.

Step 1. Is to make sure you have an eye-catching profile that stands out and positions you as an expert in your field.

Step 2. Be active every day with interesting post, engaging within groups, liking and comment on on your networks post and even messaging your own connections

How can we maximize our LinkedIn profile?

Our profiles need to be eye catching so much so that they need to stop the scroll when someone views you.

Tip 1 – Is to have a customised cover image that clearly and quickly explains who you and or how you help others.

Tip 2 – Is to make your professional headline short and sharp that compliment both your cover image and profile pic. You only get 120 character spaces to do this so make then count and NO boring job titles.

Tip 3 – Your featured section up the top can be turned into a visual notice board for your network where you can add image and images to really bring it to life

Tip 4 – Your summary/about section is the most read part of your profile and you get 2,000 character spaces to take advantage of this to fully explain, who you are, what you do and how you can help

Tip 5 – Don’t forget to have lots of raving testimonials attached to your profile as social proof in the online world can be gold.

How has the way you use LinkedIn changed over the last couple years?

Linkedin have really freshened up the platform with a more modern look over the last few years

The 2 biggest changes I love now are that video content is exploding and greatly increases engagement on our post and a more recent one is the launch of LinkedIn stories, although it’s still only available in 4 countries

You write and edit your own profile on LinkedIn, is it a trustworthy place for information? 

I see our LinkedIn profiles as our own mini website so that said just like a website the information within always needs to be taken with a grain of salt. 

That’s why testimonials on your LinkedIn profile are so powerful as it’s someone else putting their name and photos against the written words about you.

What makes a LinkedIn profile look professional? Can you give us some tips?

Tip 1 – Is not to be boring as you want to stand out from the crowd. Don’t just think of it as an online resume but more your own min website.

Remember you need to stop the scroll when someone is viewing your profile and you have 

3 – 5 seconds to that.

How important is it to have recommendations from others on your profile?

Very important as social proof is a key for credibility and trustworthiness not only on LinkedIn but anywhere online. And having video testimonials takes that to an even higher level.

Are you actively using LinkedIn to share and engage with your high-value prospects?

100% every day I’m active on LinkedIn and the other SM sites as well. 

Our customers and clients are increasingly going to our social media sites instead of a website and this may be the only interaction they have with you, your business or brand so make it count.

Being active on LinkedIn I believe is essential if you want to grow your business.

How to create a strong personal brand?

Just as we do with a website we plan it all out and even engage with experts to make it all come together.

So we need to have the same mind set with LinkedIn and the other SM sites.

Having a clear and consistent look and feel across them all is the easiest way to achieve that. 

How to build a broad AND relevant LinkedIn network?

There can be a few differing thoughts on whether a larger network is better than a smaller targeted one.

For me I coach business owners and brands on using social media so for me the larger the network works better for me.

Others who may have a more locally focussed business may find a smaller more niche LinkedIn network works better for them.

What is your process to generate quality leads from LinkedIn?

Being active everyday on LinkedIn and having an eye-catching profile is the first way for customers or clients to find you so it is something to focus on initially.

Remember Linkedin is a giant database and search engine so posting, writing blog articles, having a business page and sharing good content will help as well.

But for me it’s so simple. Use the search function to find your ideal prospect then message them or pick up the phone and say hello. Sometimes it can be as simple as that.

How do you create content to add value and amplify your expertise?

I plan out in advance all of my activity on social media and aim for it to be informative, entertaining and helpful content

How can i make it a standard post, how can I convert it into a blog article, how can I make it a video as well these are thing i’m always thinking of
